How can the city best meet the demand and mandates for more housing, including at lower prices, while also preserving the quality of life for existing neighborhoods and residents?

Temecula needs to assess our community’s housing needs today and in the future. We need to plan for a variety of housing options including accessible rentals and housing for first-time buyers. For our community to be sustainable we need to plan sufficient housing for the workforce, families moving to our community, seniors and for our children and grandchildren. Housing development should include both state and private partnerships with the city and should benefit our community members. The City Council needs to work together with the housing developers and the community to ensure that we continue to maintain our excellent public safety, address issues of traffic and develop infrastructure alongside the development of housing.

How should the city balance paying off debts, such as pension liabilities, and building reserves all while meeting residents’ needs? Should a solution involve finding new revenue, trimming the budget, or something else entirely?

Temecula needs to attract new businesses into our community that pays both a living wage and that provide professional jobs. This will provide needed revenue and enhance the quality of life for residents, many who have to travel outside the city to work, increasing congestion on our roads. Through the continued development of our local college campus in Temecula, we can increase the number of students completing their degrees and certificates in areas that directly support our region’s economy.

In your opinion, what is the biggest need your city faces, and how would you address it?

The greatest needs in our city include improving infrastructure, varied housing so those who work in our city can afford to live here and to attract new businesses into our community. The City Council needs to focus on the areas they oversee to meet the needs of all their community members.

Why would you make a good leader, and how would you represent the diverse communities of your city?

We need to work together with all our community to make Temecula a sustainable, inclusive and equitable city for our future generations! I believe my many years of experience in governance, advocacy and bringing in funds in partnerships with others make me an excellent candidate for this position.
