Woman passenger shot on 91 Freeway in Riverside

A woman was hospitalized after getting shot on the 91 Freeway in Riverside on Thursday, Sept. 5, police said.

The California Highway Patrol received a call about shots fired on the eastbound 91 at 14th street around 5:45 p.m., Officer Javier Navarro said. Perhaps four or five shots were fired at a black Nissan Altima with five occupants.

A 22-year-old woman sitting behind the driver was shot in the thigh.

The occupants were unable to provide responding officers with a description of the shooter or the vehicle.

It is still unclear what prompted the shooting.

As of Thursday night, the woman was being prepared for surgery for non-life-threatening injuries.

The CHP asked that anyone with information on the shooting to call it at 951-324-7210.
