Riverside Community Players began when Janet Scott assembled a group to put on one-act plays at the Riverside Woman’s Club, according to a news release. The group survived the Depression of the 1930s and World War II and in 1953, the Riverside Community Players built its own theater, the building at 4026 14th St. that is still its home.
Riverside Community Players’ 2024-25, which opens Sept. 6, will include five main stage shows, two family shows and two Spotlight Series shows. There will also be outreach performances including a Juneteenth celebration, and the theater will continue its annual Youth Summer Conservatory, according to the news release.
The first play of the season is “On Golden Pond” by Ernest Thompson, opening 8 p.m. Sept. 6 and running weekends through Sept. 22. Ron Milts will direct the play, which tells he story of an aging couple dealing with a strained relationship with their daughter.
Tickets are $20, available at riversidecommunityplayers.com.
