A decorated U.S. Air Force pilot will be saluted at a Friday, Oct. 25, event celebrating aviation pioneers.
Lt. Col. Ed Yeilding, who is retired, will be honored at the Champions of Flight fundraiser, which will benefit the March Field Air Museum near Riverside.
The doors will open at 5:30 p.m., with the program set to start at 7 p.m. The event is at the museum, 22550 Van Buren Blvd.

Yeilding will receive the Champions of Flight award, which goes to “extraordinary men and women who have pushed the boundaries of aviation, inspiring generations to reach for the skies,” a news release states.
Born in 1949 and raised in Alabama, Yeilding had a career that lasted more than two decades. He flew the SR-71 Blackbird, in which he set several speed records and carried out 93 overseas reconnaissance missions, according to the release.
In 1990, he set an official coast-to-coast speed record that stands today, the release states. His military awards include three Meritorious Service Medals and four Air Medals, according to the release. He was inducted into the Alabama Aviation Hall of Fame and was named a Distinguished Eagle Scout.
