Officials delay part of football complex at La Sierra High School in Riverside

La Sierra High School’s new football stadium is still coming, but part of the project has been postponed.

An entrance building planned for the front of the stadium won’t open with the rest of the complex in 2026, as officials focus on higher-priority projects across the Alvord Unified School District.

This building would be designed to look similar to an eagle, the Riverside school’s mascot.

The blue-and-red building that would house ticket windows, concessions, team rooms and restrooms will be built later, Alvord’s Director of Facilities Ryan Carter said.

Today, the La Sierra High Eagles play home games at the Corona-based district’s Norte Vista High School in Riverside.

In June, Alvord school administrators, board members and project managers announced the new complex, which would host school sports, community events and band programs on the La Sierra campus.

Construction of the stadium’s track and field are moving forward as is work on new bleachers, a press box, lighting and underground infrastructure.

The estimated $20 million project will be paid for by Measure J, the $249 million school bond that Alvord voters approved in November 2022.

Instead of the La Sierra entrance building, Alvord will prioritize fencing and security cameras at all its schools, exterior painting at middle schools, relocating the office at Riverside’s Loma Vista Middle School and adding a parking lot at the alternative Alvord High School in Riverside.

The stadium project work set to start in summer will lay the groundwork for construction of the delayed building, Carter said.

School officials have said that they don’t have a specific timeline for the full stadium’s completion, but expect it will be completed before all bond measures funds are used.

It’s not yet been determined when construction on the building would begin, Carter said.

The Alvord school district, based in Corona, serves parts of the western Riverside area and a slice of northeast Corona.

Updates on the stadium will be posted here.
