Norco candlelight vigil honors fallen Riverside County Sheriff’s deputy

Holding candles, a crowd gathered Tuesday night, Jan. 14, to honor a Riverside County Sheriff’s deputy who died last week in an on-duty car accident.

Timothy Corlew, 40, died early Wednesday, Jan. 8, in a collision on the 91 Freeway in Riverside.

Assigned to the Jurupa Valley sheriff’s office, he was a motor deputy in Norco, where a throng of people said goodbye during the event outside the Riverside County Sheriff’s Station in the city.

The CHP reported that Corlew came upon stopped traffic and his motorcycle struck the back of a car. He died later at Riverside Community Hospital.

Corlew had worked for the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department since early 2016.

Seven Riverside County deputies have died on duty in approximately the past five years after 13 years without an on-duty fatality.
