Enrollment is open for Riverside Arts Academy’s music ensembles

Riverside Arts Academy, a nonprofit offering a variety of music programs for students from second through 12th grade, is adding several new music ensembles for the 2024-25 year.

Riverside Arts Academy will continue to offer its Riverside Youth Orchestra, Riverside Children’s Choir and Mariachi Juvenil de Riverside and will also offer Honor Band, Beginner Strings I, Beginner Strings II, Camerata Strings, Beginner Guitar and Guitar Ensemble.

Full and partial need-based scholarships are available, and more than 80% of participants typically receive financial aid, according to a news release. The deadline to enroll is Sept. 26, and courses that fill before then will run a wait list.

Riverside Arts Academy has recently hired Alex Treviño II as lead teaching artist for its Mariachi Juvenil de Riverside program. Treviño is a former member of Grammy Award-winning Mariachi Los Camperos and Grammy-nominated Mariachi Los Arrieros and former student director of Mariachi Aztlan, according to the news release.

Treviño received his bachelor’s degree in music education from the University of Texas RioGrande Valley in 2023 and has performed, taught and recorded in places including Tokyo, Beijing, Mexico City, Chicago, Albuquerque, Seattle, New York, Guadalajara, Las Vegas and Los Angeles.

As lead teaching artist for Riverside Arts Academy’s Mariachi Juvenil de Riverside program, he will lead the program, design its curriculum and oversee growth opportunities for the program.

Riverside Arts Academy, founded in 2012, is a nonprofit arts-based youth development program for students ages 7 to 17 that partners with the Riverside and Alvord unified school districts. It provides more than 100 hours of instruction weekly to more than 500 students in the Riverside area, according to the news release.
