10 cars burn in downtown Riverside auto-salvage yard

A fire in a salvage yard put up a large amount of smoke near the downtown Riverside freeway interchange during the morning commute on Monday, Aug. 26.

The Riverside Fire Department responded to Allied Auto Salvage, at 1926 Spruce St., around 6:45 a.m., Division Chief Tony Perna said.

Firefighters arrived to find a pile of 10 cars engulfed in flames.

The fire was extinguished by about 7:30 a.m. Firefighters expected to be on the scene until mid-morning, pulling the debris apart, Perna said.

There were no reported injuries. The cause of the fire was under investigation.
