Trader Joe’s is opening soon in Murrieta, according to signs posted on the building at 40388 Murrieta Hot Springs Road.
The fan-favorite grocery store is opening in a former OfficeMax store in the Murrieta Plaza shopping center, which also is home to big-box retailer Sam’s Club.

Monrovia-based Trader Joe’s quietly updated its Southern California locations page a couple of weeks ago, adding eight stores to the “coming soon” roster. The Murrieta location is the only new store for the Inland Empire.
Nakia Rohde, Trader Joe’s public relations manager, said via email on May 31 to keep an eye on store location details online.
Work on the building has provided enough clues for locals. In recent days, a coming soon sign went up at the store, in the once-quite corner of the shopping center.
The amount of activity at the site has increased in recent weeks, too.
On Wednesday, June 19, the shopping cart return areas were being installed in the parking lot. And parking spots in the vast lot, compared to what many are familiar with for Trader Joe’s, were occupied.
The windows at the front of the store are papered over, but there’s activity going on.
One employee — wearing the signature hibiscus logo on a sweatshirt — came out. When asked about an opening date, the reply: Doors will open June 28.
So the new location will open soon, easing the flow for the nearby Temecula location, just a few miles away, at 40665 Winchester Road, and giving Sam a neighbor in Joe.
