A man was shot and injured by an off-duty police officer during an apparent road-rage incident in Murrieta on Monday, Sept. 16, authorities said.
Around 9 a.m., an off-duty Hemet Police officer was in the area along the 39500 block of Murrieta Hot Springs Road, near Margarita Road, and witnessed the road rage encounter between two people in a nearby parking lot, according to the Murrieta Police Department.
Information on what led to the confrontation was not immediately available, though the man was shot multiple times after the officer attempted to intervene.
He was taken to a hospital in critical condition. The officer was not injured in the shooting, and no other injuries were reported.
The Murrieta Police Department, along with the Riverside District Attorney’s Office and the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department, were investigating the shooting. Murrieta Hot Springs Road between Margarita and School House Way was closed to traffic Monday afternoon
