Teen arrested on suspicion of making criminal threats against middle school in Moreno Valley

A 13-year-old boy was arrested over the weekend, after allegedly making criminal threats on social media that targeted Mountain View Middle School in Moreno Valley.

On Sunday, Aug. 18, multiple parents and students reported their concern over a social media post that threatened violence at the middle school. The post included a photo of several weapons, which was later determined to be an image taken off the internet, the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department said in a Monday statement.

The holder of the involved social media account was identified as a 13-year-old boy, who was arrested on suspicion of criminal threats and threatening school employees and booked at Riverside Juvenile Hall, authorities said.

It was unclear if the boy had a relationship with the school.

“There have been no other threats to the school, and we believe the juvenile acted alone,” said a sheriff’s news release.

Additional deputies were on campus Monday for extra safety and security, the Sheriff’s Department said.

The arrest in the Moreno Valley investigation was announced a day after Murrieta Police announced a former student at Warm Springs Middle School in Murrieta had been arrested on suspicion of posting threats on Instagram against that school.
