MORENO VALLEY — A parolee suspected of fatally assaulting a relative at her residence in a Moreno Valley mobile home park was being held without bail Saturday.
Giovanni Farias, 28, of Moreno Valley was arrested Thursday morning following a Riverside County Sheriff’s Department investigation into the death of 52-year-old Veronica De La Luz.
Farias was booked into the Robert Presley Jail in Riverside on suspicion of murder and parole violations.
According to sheriff’s Sgt. Jarred Bishop, patrol deputies were called to De La Luz’s home in the Sky Trails Mobile Village near the intersection of Perris Boulevard and Delphinium Avenue shortly after 11 a.m. Thursday to investigate reports of an assault with a deadly weapon.
When they arrived, they discovered the victim “suffering traumatic injuries,” Bishop said, adding that paramedics pronounced her dead at the scene.
“During the investigation, deputies were directed to a separate mobile home, where the suspect was located,” the sergeant said.
Farias was at the residence and taken into custody without incident.
“The suspect and victim are related, and the incident appears to have resulted from a family dispute,” Bishop said.
No other details were disclosed.
Background information on Farias was unavailable.
