Six people were killed and four others were injured when flames engulfed three cars that collided southeast of Moreno Valley on Monday, Sept. 9, the Cal Fire/Riverside County Fire Department said.
The crash was reported at 2:22 p.m. at the intersection of Gilman Springs Road and Bridge Street in unincorporated Riverside County. All of the cars were ablaze when firefighters arrived, Cal Fire said.
The agency initially reported that four people were pronounced dead at the scene and four others were injured. That was later updated to six dead.
The four injured were suffering from minor to serious injuries.
The crash touched off a brush fire that was held to about 3 acres.
Gilman Springs Road from Bridge Street to Highway 79 was closed for the investigation. Eastbound traffic on Gilman Springs was diverted to southbound Bridge. Westbound traffic on Gilman Springs was diverted to Highway 79.
No details of the collision were immediately available.
