Small earthquake strikes near San Jacinto, Hemet

A 2.8-magnitude earthquake was recorded near San Jacinto at 8:12 a.m. Wednesday, the U.S. Geological Survey reported.

There were no reports of damage or injuries.

The USGS had preliminarily said the temblor was of a 3.1 magnitude but later downgraded its strength to 2.8.

The quake was centered 3.4 miles east northeast of San Jacinto, 4.2 miles north of Valle Vista, five miles north northeast of East Hemet and 5.6 miles northeast of Hemet.

It was about 8.7 miles deep.
