Man arrested on suspicion of homicide after cyclist is struck with vehicle in Hemet

Hemet Police have arrested a man on suspicion of homicide after officers received calls regarding a cyclist being struck by a car around 5:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 12. An investigation into the crash determined the driver had intentionally struck the cyclist with his vehicle, according to a Hemet Police Department news release.

Officers responded to the 3800 block of West Devonshire Avenue, west of Sanderson Avenue, where they found an unresponsive male in the roadway. The victim was given life-saving measures and transported to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The victim has not been named by police, pending notification of his family.

The driver of the car and suspect was identified by police as Jimarvin Marquise Lackey-Berg. Authorities did not provide the age or city of residence of the suspect.

Lackey-Berg was arrested and held on $1 million bail.

Information on a motive for the crash, if known, wasn’t immediately released.
