Riverside County sheriff’s deputy arrested, suspected of sexual assault of volunteer

A Riverside County sheriff’s deputy suspected of sexually assaulting a female volunteer with the Sheriff’s Department was arrested on Saturday, June 22, the agency said.

The assault was reported on Friday, June 21, after she informed another deputy, who told his supervisor, according to a sheriff’s statement.

Deputy Alexander Vanny, 33, was arrested and booked on suspicion of aggravated kidnapping, sexual assault by force or fear, and forced oral copulation, according to county jail records.

Bail was set at $1 million; Vanny posted bail and was released Saturday.

Vanny could not be reached for comment on Monday: No one answered a phone call placed to his residence and there was no immediate response to an email sent to him.

Vanny was hired by the Sheriff’s Department in 2016 and most recently was assigned to the Hemet Sheriff’s Station.

He was placed on unpaid administrative leave.

Investigators asked anyone with information regarding the case to contact Lead Investigator Chris Poznanski of the Special Victims Unit at 951-955-1698.
