Dine 909: Cool off with some of the Inland Empire’s award-winning frozen desserts

Two Inland Empire-based frozen dessert makers have won awards at this year’s Los Angeles International Dairy Competition, held earlier this year at Fairplex in Pomona.

Montclair-based Scoops on Tap won three gold medals for its ice cream: Madagascar Vanilla won in the Full Fat Premium Vanilla category; Banana Caramel Crunch won in the Full Fat Other Flavors category and for package design; and Butterscotch Toffee won in the Full Fat Other Flavors category.

Butterscotch Toffee also won Best in Class.

It’s the third year in a row that Scoops on Tap has been awarded.

Scoops on Tap’s ice creams are available at Vons Pavilion locations and a handful of independent markets.

Through Saturday, July 27, the dessert maker is celebrating its ninth anniversary (and the second anniversary of its Covina scoop shop). Details are available on its website: www.scoopsontap.com.

Happy Camper Creamery in Redlands won two gold medals.

The dessert shop won gold medals in the frozen dessert category for its Coffee Oreo Cookie gelato and its Coconut Almond Chip gelato, which also was recognized for package design.

Happy Camper won four gold medals in the 2022 competition.

Happy Camper Creamery is at 721 Nevada St., Suite 208.
