7 women veterans honored at event near San Jacinto

Seven female veterans were honored recently at an event near San Jacinto.

Golden Era Golf Course hosted the Sunday, May 19, program, which was sponsored by Veterans Circle of Friends, the Rotary Club of Hemet and Golden Era Productions, a news release states.

The seven honorees, according to the release, were:

Barbara Barron — A retired Army veteran, she was president of the Federal Employee Women Adelphi Chapter in Maryland.
Stephanie Bruce — She served in the Army during Operation Desert Storm and Operation Desert Shield and is executive director of the nonprofit Black Voices of the Valley.
Ramonita Cruz — As a Marine, she deployed three times to Iraq and Afghanistan and has worked for Riverside County Veterans’ Services.
Arlene Jackson — She is the founder and the CEO of Restoring Hope Community Services in the Perris area and created a 14-bed shelter for homeless veterans.
Theresa Seaton — She served in the U.S. Army, is a member of the Soboba Band of Luiseño Indians and has been a cast member of the “Ramona” pageant since 1940.
Jackie Wayman — She served in the U.S Army during Vietnam and is president of OC Cultural Pride.
Martha Sylvia Zaragoza — She volunteers with veterans, is a daughter of a Word War II veteran and belongs to the American Legion Auxiliary and the Patriot Guard Riders.

Those recognized received certificates and acknowledgement from elected officials and community organizations.

“I am so happy I am going to tell my family all about this because no one has ever done this before,” Wayman said, according to the release. “I have never been acknowledged before.”
