The Western Center Academy was crowned again Saturday, Feb. 1, in an awards ceremony after the Super Quiz, a gameshow-style contest on the event’s last day at the Riverside County Office of Education Conference Center in downtown Riverside.

The academy, located next to the Western Science Center at the entrance to Diamond Valley Lake, outlasted 10 other school teams on its way to the championship.
Beaumont High School’s Team A finished second; its Team B came in third. In the Super Quiz, the Western Center Academy and Beaumont’s A Team tied for first.
The 42nd annual event, with the theme of “Our Changing Climate,” began with virtual competition Jan. 16.
The decathlon involves teams of high school students competing in 10 academic events and the Super Quiz.
The Western Center team will move onto the California Academic Decathlon from March 20 through March 23 in Santa Clara. California’s champion will advance to the United States Academic Decathlon, set for May 1 through May 3, in Des Moines, Iowa.
The Hemet school appeared in the nationals last year.
