Murrieta police investigating a report of domestic violence shot and killed a man who was armed with a gun on Wednesday, Jan. 29, the Police Department said in a news release.
The call came in around 11:45 p.m. from a residence in the Pacific Landing Apartments at 36124 Creighton Ave. Officers forced their way into the apartment after hearing signs of distress and with no one answering the door, the release said.
“Upon entry, officers encountered a male armed with a handgun,” the news release said. “During that encounter, an officer-involved shooting occurred, and the male resident was struck with gunfire.”
The 57-year-old man, whose name had not been released yet, was taken to Inland Valley Hospital, where he died.
No officer was injured, the release said.
The Riverside County Sheriff’s Department is investigating the shooting. Lt. Deirdre Vickers, a sheriff’s spokeswoman, declined to say what precisely prompted the shooting, citing the investigation.
