Man on electric scooter killed in crash with vehicle in Riverside

A man riding an electric scooter was struck and killed Wednesday by a vehicle in Riverside.

Riverside police and fire personnel responded near the intersection of La Sierra Avenue and Spaulding Road around 4:40 p.m. Wednesday to reports regarding a collision involving a vehicle and pedestrian, according to the Riverside Police Department.

Detectives determined after a preliminary investigation that a man riding an electric scooter southbound on La Sierra Avenue in the northbound lanes was struck head-on by a vehicle driven by a 21-year-old woman who turned northbound onto La Sierra Avenue from La Sierra High School.

The man was taken to a hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. Police said the driver remained at the scene and remained cooperative during the investigation. It remains unclear if drugs or alcohol were contributing factors to the collision.

The investigation by the Riverside Police Department Major Accident Investigation Team continued into Wednesday evening.

Anyone with additional information regarding the fatal collision was urged to call Riverside Police Department Traffic Detective Jeff Derouin at 951-826-8722 or Jderouin@riversideca.gov.
