A fire that broke out among a group of trailers around 5:45 a.m. Friday, Nov. 15, killed one person. The trailers, which were located on the 2600 block of Pacific Street in the Pacific Village homeless services campus, are part of HomeKey, a state program that provides temporary housing for homeless people.
The victim has not yet been identified, only reported as a man by the San Bernardino County Fire Department in a news release. The cause of the fire is still under investigation, San Bernardino County Fire Public Information Officer Eric Sherwin said Monday.
Firefighters arrived at the scene of the blaze to find three trailers on fire. The blaze eventually damaged five trailers, with damage levels varying. Some trailers were destroyed, while others were only partially damaged. Firefighters were able to get the flames under control in roughly 15 minutes. The male victim was found dead in one of the trailers by a rescuer, according to the news release.
“Residents displaced by the incident are receiving support including behavioral health, medical care, emergency housing placement, senior services, case management and food from a host of county agencies,” the fire department said in a statement. “Vouchers will also be provided to replace clothing and personal items.”
The fire location is south of the 210 Freeway and west of Victoria Avenue.
