Renovated stadium open at Riverside’s Norte Vista High School

The refurbished K.R. Zack Earp Stadium has opened at Riverside’s Norte Vista High School.

A Friday, Oct. 4, ceremony celebrated the milestone in the Alvord Unified School District.

Measure J, a school bond approved by Alvord voters in 2022, paid for stadium improvements at the venue named for the former Alvord school board member who helped get it built years ago.

The project included replacing the grass field and the stadium’s decomposed granite track with a synthetic turf and an all-weather gel track, a news release states. A ninth lane on the track was added, as was a water cannon cooling system for the field. Access for the disabled has been improved.

The project also adjusted the field so it can host not only football and soccer but also lacrosse, which has not previously been played there, the release states.

The event featured Norte Vista’s cheer squad and band. Speakers included Alvord Superintendent Resma Byrne; K.R. Zack Earp, for whom the stadium is named; and Norte Vista Principal Jason Marquez.

Across the district, Measure J dollars have resurfaced parking lots, paid for new public address systems, security improvements, beautification projects, replaced playgrounds at all elementary schools and resurfaced the football field at Hillcrest High School in Riverside, according to the release.

The Corona-based Alvord district serves the western part of Riverside, parts of the city of Corona and unincorporated areas of Riverside County. It has about 17,500 students in 14 elementary schools, four middle schools, three comprehensive high schools and two alternative education centers.
