A brush fire burning north of Lake Elsinore on Friday, Oct. 11 was threatening homes and prompted the evacuation of schools, fire officials said.
The Miles fire was burning in the Alberhill area and started near Beardsley Road and Miles Way on the west side of the 15 Freeway, according to Cal Fire/Riverside County Fire Department.
Around 1:30 p.m., Cal Fire said 20 acres had burned and that the flames were spreading at a moderate pace. Aircraft were dropping water on the flames and spreading retardant ahead of them.
Officials at the Lake Elsinore Unified School District could not immediately be reached to learn which schools were being evacuated.
