Temecula Valley Genealogical Society will hold open house

The Temecula Valley Genealogical Society invites the community to its fall open house, to be held 5-7 p.m. Monday, Oct. 7, in the Community Room of the Ronald H. Roberts Temecula Public Library, 30600 Pauba Road.

“Roots and Branches: The Stories That Connect Us” is the theme of this year’s open house, which gives the public an opportunity to get acquainted with many of the resources the Temecula Valley Genealogical Society has to offer in helping people learn about their family histories, according to a news release.

The free event also includes refreshments and an opportunity drawing.

This summer, the Temecula Valley Genealogical Society, which was established in 1998, honored its charter members at the ribbon-cutting for the society’s updated Genealogy Room at the Ronald H. Roberts Temecula Public Library.

Updates to the Genealogy Room include newly installed microfilm and microfiche equipment and scanner that the Genealogical Society will be able to use for FamilySearch research. The Temecula library is in the process of becoming a FamilySearch affiliate library, according to a news release.

Before the July 8 ribbon-cutting event, the society compiled a list of all its charter members, and that is now displayed in the Genealogy Room.

The society also invited all the charter members they could locate to the ribbon-cutting and presented charter member certificates to those who were able to attend — Bernadine Anderson, John Hunneman, Dolores Luna, Dotye Summers and Gordon Summers.

Barbara Perez is president of the Temecula Valley Genealogical Society. For information about the society and its programs, go to tvgs.net.
