A new documentary chronicles the work of Cheech Marin, the actor who more than two years ago established a Chicano art museum in downtown Riverside.
“The Cheech” is a one-hour film that debuts on PBS SoCal on Friday, Oct. 4, at 8 p.m. It is part of the Emmy award-winning arts and culture series “Artbound,” a news release states.

The documentary highlights “Marin’s passion for Chicano art and his role in shaping the Los Angeles art scene,” the release states. It features interviews with prominent artists and others, while tracking his “journey from comedy icon to dedicated Chicano art advocate,” according to the release.
His efforts in the world of art culminated with the June 2022 opening of The Cheech Marin Center for Chicano Art & Culture of the Riverside Art Museum, which took shape in the city’s remodeled public library in downtown.
“The Cheech” is also scheduled to air Wednesday, Oct. 9, at 9 p.m. on PBS SoCal Plus. It will be streaming on pbssocal.org/artbound, PBS.org and the free PBS App.
