It was the annual Deafestival, held Saturday, Sept. 14, at Riverside City Hall.

Highlights included poetry, jokes and a story time — all in American Sign Language. There were also performances by youths, a deaf magician and a Riverside Police Department K-9.

The festival featured vendors, booths staffed by community organizations, food and a kids’ activity zone.

It is among the events planned this month to promote awareness of the deaf community.
