2 Corona firefighters injured battling mobile home blaze

Two Corona firefighters were hospitalized after drywall fell on them as they pulled down a ceiling in a burning mobile home, a department spokesman said.

One firefighter was treated and released, and the other was admitted for observation, engineer Daniel Yonan said.

The fire was reported at 5:09 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 11, at the Flamingo Mobile Home Park at 1203 W. Sixth St.  Firefighters arrived to find smoke coming from the roof and vents and the residents evacuated.

Firefighters entered and saw flames in the space between the ceiling and roof, Yonan said in an email on Tuesday, Aug. 13.

“While pulling down the ceiling within the home to check for fire extension, (two) members of the CFD were struck by drywall that had fallen from the ceiling, injuring them,” Yonan said.

The cause of the fire was under investigation.
