Burglars turned a car into a battering ram to break into a Riverside smoke shop early Friday, Aug. 9, and steal an unspecified amount of product, the Riverside Police Department said.
Yiareth Lopez, an employee at Cloudy Smoke Shop at 4773 Tyler St., said cases and doors were damaged and that there was a lot of broken glass.
“They didn’t take much,” she said.
The store still opened Friday.
Police responded to the store around 1:30 a.m. after the owner called when he saw on surveillance images that a car had crashed into the building and that three people were rummaging around and stealing, said Officer Ryan Railsback, a police spokesman. The car they crashed was reported stolen, he said.
“The suspects fled the scene in a different vehicle after stealing numerous tobacco products and accessories. No arrests have been made,” Railsback said.
Lopez was crestfallen.
“We are for the community, we live around this community, and to have someone from our community do this to us is heartbreaking,” she said.
