New Lake Elsinore brush fire stopped at 64 acres

LAKE ELSINORE — Firefighters battled a 64-acre brush fire in Lake Elsinore on Sunday.

The fire was reported just before 2 p.m. near the intersection of Walker Canyon Road and Lake Street, according to the Cal Fire/Riverside County Fire Department.

At the time of report the fire was approximately 10 acres, but grew rapidly and was sized at 64 acres by 3:20 p.m., however the fire department added that the fire’s forward progress was stopped.

Responding firefighters reported the fire burning upslope in light vegetation. Multiple air and ground resources were assigned.

Firefighters predicted remaining on scene for approximately four hours for mop up.

No injuries or evacuations were immediately reported.

The cause of the fire was not known.

The fire broke out the same day another fire in Lake Elsinore, the Macy fire, was reported to be 100% contained.
