Two people who the California Highway Patrol says were not wearing seat belts were killed early Monday, May 27, when they were ejected from their van that overturned on the 15 Freeway in Wildomar.
Juan Carlos Poblete, 22, of Wildomar, was the driver, according to reports from the CHP and Riverside County Coroner’s Office. His passenger was identified by the CHP as a 39-year-old man from an unknown city.
The crash happened at 12:36 a.m. in the southbound lanes north of Lemon Street, the CHP said.
The 1999 GMC Savana veered off the right side of the freeway, struck a guardrail, continued back across the lanes, went up a dirt embankment and overturned, the CHP said.
The victims were ejected before the van came to rest.
“Alcohol is suspected to be a factor in this traffic collision,” a CHP news release said.
