9-year-old girl dies after collision at Lake Elsinore Motorsports Park

A 9-year-old girl died Sunday, June 2, after being injured in a collision at Lake Elsinore Motorsports Park, the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department said.

Brooke Carlton of Vista died at Inland Valley Medical Center at 11:24 a.m., the Riverside County Coroner’s Office said.

Brooke was riding an electric motorbike around 10 a.m. when she and another juvenile riding a motorbike collided, the Sheriff’s Department said. Bystanders performed CPR on Brooke and she was then hospitalized. The other juvenile suffered minor injuries, said the department, which continues to investigate the collision.

“Yesterday the good Lord called our dear Brooke Lily to heaven after a freak accident at a local motocross track,” Brooke’s parents, Jason and Angie, wrote in a message on a GoFundMe page organized by a family friend. “Our entire family is still trying to understand why our Brookie, but we firmly believe that God needed her and called her home to be with him.”

The friend, Ally Giles, wrote that Brooke loved her parents, her dog Gunner, her grandparents and her brother Landon.

“For those that really knew Brooke, she was a total spitfire that knew what she wanted and there was no way of getting around it. One look at her glittering eyes and toothy smile and she could have you convinced that the sky was indeed pink and purple, and that you should buy her an ice cream because of it,” Giles wrote.

Motorsports park officials said they are planning a ride in honor of the girl.

“We are truly sad about the situation. This was such a freak accident,” a statement on the park’s Instagram page said.
